This will be the first of many, many posts to follow after the start of this crazy challenge this coming Saturday. I have decided, as a personal challenge, and a way to raise awareness and funds for a very special cause, to squat at least one rep of at least 400 pounds every single day for 365 days! The idea was based off of a guy I've met a few times named Dave Lipson who did this (with a little more weight) to raise money for a charity in the name of a CrossFitter I had the pleasure of working out with a couple of times back in the day, Amanda Miller (for those of you who don't know, the popular CrossFit workout "Amanda" is named after her). Sadly, she died of skin cancer, and Lipson did this impressive feat to raise money for the American Melanoma Foundation. I thought it was a pretty cool challenge, and figured I'd give it a go. The Cause: I honestly haven't picked one out yet but I am researching ones that I really believe in. I want to get very closely involved with helping underprivileged children get food, education, and activity in their lives, so that is what I am searching for. My initial goal is to raise at least $4,000 over the course of this year. Once I've picked the perfect cause, I will have a link on this site where you all can show your support. The Squats: I will be putting at least 400 pounds on a barbell and squatting it at least once, very single day for 365 days. I am allowed to do more weight, I could do more reps, but that is the minimum. The Rules: Not really any rules besides the above. But, in the event there is no way I can hit my squat, or I am completely debilitated, I can defer the squats to another day. So for example, if I end up missing 3 days for for some reason, I can hit those three plus my single on the fourth day and it'll be all good. In the end, I would hope nobody gets too worked up over me not being able to find a gym. But I figure I'll put this out there just because. All The Rest: The fun will begin at my gyms Grand Opening, this Saturday December 7th, 2013. I'll try to post videos, pics, and some form of post every day, throughout the year so please do follow along. If you are a company that wants to get involved in all the fun, please contact me and let me know. The main thing I'de love to have for this is a cool shirt people can get to help raise awareness OK, that should be it! Looking forward to Saturday! In the meantime, I'll leave you with a video from Mondays' 3 rep max squat day. Not sure how these work, but go ahead and use it: #courage400 Post by Josh Courage.
